Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe

Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe

Why would I resort to using a homemade Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe instead of using the top selling brands? Well, despite taking all the necessary steps to ensure my children’s oral health, they still developed cavities and swollen inflamed gums when they were children. I was puzzled as our kids’ teeth were brushed with a dentist-recommended fluoride toothpaste, flossed every morning and every night before bed, and ate healthy, nutritious foods. I realized that there are other factors that can contribute to cavities and gum issues besides brushing and flossing, such as diet.

After some research, I learned that certain foods could help strengthen teeth and gums and reverse oral health problems. Yes, I did say reverse. I decided to eliminate toothpaste containing fluoride from our home due to its harmful effects on the body. I decided to switch to a fluoride-free toothpaste.

Here is a snippet of what I read on Fluoride:

The truth, now becoming increasingly evident, is that fluoridation and the proclaimed benefit of fluoride as a way of preventing dental decay is perhaps the greatest “scientific” fraud ever perpetrated upon an unsuspecting public. Even worse, the relentless promotion of fluoride as a “dental benefit” is responsible for the huge neglect in proper assessment of its toxicity, an issue that has become a major concern for many nations.

So, I created my own homemade Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe to reduce costs, and mostly because I like to know my ingredients. Not to mention, my teeth feels like I just left the dentist office with a good cleaning. The change in our oral hygiene routine resulted in healthy teeth and gums, without cavities, gum inflammation, or sensitivity. My dentist was impressed and recommended we continue doing what we were doing.

My Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe uses natural ingredients that improve oral health and freshen breath. Including, coconut oil, baking soda, xylitol, MCT oil, and essential oils.

Healthy Gums Toothpaste Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil, softened
  • 4 Tbsp. of baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp. of xylitol (or to taste)
  • 1/2 Tbsp. MCT oil
  • 10-40 drops of essential oil ( I like to use cinnamon )

Instructions

  1. Measure out all ingredients and add them to a tall, wide-mouth mason jar.
  2. Using an immersion stick blender, blend all the ingredients together until the mixture is fully blended and has become smooth and creamy. (Alternative: If you don’t have a stick blender, you can also melt the coconut oil and stir in the remaining ingredients by hand.)
  3. Pour mixture into two clean 4-ounce ball jars or other small glass jars and cover with a lid. I personally like and use these colorful lids in our house to color-code each person’s jar of toothpaste.
  4. When ready to use, scoop a clean, dry toothbrush into the toothpaste jar to get a bit of toothpaste onto your toothbrush. Brush your teeth and enjoy!

One More Thing

When blending the ingredients, it’s normal for the mixture to become liquid, but don’t worry – let it sit on your counter for a while and it will thicken to a smooth, creamy texture.

My homemade toothpaste recipe.

In warmer climates or during summertime, the mixture may soften or even melt. To restore its consistency, refrigerate the jar for a short period of time.

During winter months, the toothpaste may harden, making it difficult to scoop out. In this case, add some more MCT oil to achieve a creamy consistency.

Avoid introducing any water into the jar to prevent the growth of mold. I suggest using a small wooden spoon to place directly on your tooth brush. I have never had any issues with mold formation using this method.
